While browsing through all the fashion magazines, I think people have grown used to the idea that all our favorite models have been retouched -but I don’t think most people realize that just as much, if not more work goes into jewelry retouching. Highly reflective images such as jewelry, have a way of displaying all sorts of unwanted and distracting casts and reflections. What may look like a flawless gold or diamond piece to the naked eye, when examined closer by the camera, will reveal scratches and flaws like everything else. Not only that but lighting all the different elements in a piece of jewelry 100% perfectly in the studio can be a mammoth task. Metals, diamonds, rubys, stones all have different reflective properties and lighting needs to properly display themselves in all their glory. This is where good retouching comes in. Professional retouching can give all the elements in the image proper balance and turn an ok looking image into a work of perfection. The images on the left are pretty much what they looked like coming out of the camera while the same image on the right is what happens after hours and hours of intense photoshop work on the computer.
